Carbon Footprint Calculator

Estimate CO2 emissions avoided from solar, EV driving, and reduced natural gas use.

This tool provides a planning estimate based on the assumptions shown below the results — it is not a quote, and actual costs and savings will vary by installer, local rates, and your specific home. Tree-equivalent and grid-emissions figures are illustrative approximations, not a certified carbon-offset calculation.

0.855 is the U.S. national average — your regional grid may be cleaner or dirtier. Check EPA eGRID for your specific region.

How this calculator works

Solar: production × grid emissions factor (the CO2 that would have been emitted generating that electricity from the grid instead). EV: (miles ÷ gas car MPG) × 19.6 lbs CO2/gallon. Natural gas: therms reduced × 11.7 lbs CO2/therm. Tree equivalent uses roughly 48 lbs CO2 sequestered per mature tree per year — illustrative, not a precise offset claim.

Note: this doesn't account for the EV's own charging emissions (covered by the grid emissions factor if you're also charging from the grid) — for a fully solar-charged EV, the EV savings shown here are close to the full tailpipe-avoided amount.
